The Dog Days

Well, it's that time of year again. The lawns, burnt to a crisp from the dreadful summer heat, are showing signs of life. No longer will the landscapers have to draw lines in the brown fescue and lower their blades to make it look like they are actually cutting something. Yes, the cooler weather and a spritz of rain has revitalized the grass and welcomed us out of the air conditioning and reintroduced us into our backyard oasis!

The pools, once vibrant and blue are getting a little cloudy and green...the skimmers starting to gunk up with the premature falling of the dried out leaves dangling and holding on to dear life from their lofty heights. The water is too cold to swim, but it's too early to close up the pools. You have to at least try and make it to Labor Day...the last BBQ of the year before the dreaded winter rolls in with the darkness and the cold. Oh, what misery!

You can hear the marching band practice at the high school as they prepare to outshine the football team yet again. School busses are zipping around as the drivers practice their new routes. The janitorial staff at the schools has requested triple overtime as they mysteriously emerge from the boiler rooms where they have whittled away the summer yet again. But somehow, the schools are ready when the time comes.

The children have grown tired of the summer, and are ready to return to the hallways. The parents have grown tired of the children and can't wait to send them back. Before you know it, the air conditioners will come out of the windows, the boiler will be kicking on and we'll be preparing to piss away a ridiculous amount of money on another Christmas. Aw, fuck, I miss the summer already.

Scraping knees and spelling bees! It's time for school!
